Interesting data. In my travels around Europe two years ago I visited Paris and Madrid, and I felt the former was dirtier, grubbier and smellier than Madrid, which seemed much more ‘polished’, yet Spain isn’t listed among the top 20. Presumably the EPI takes into account many other factors, not just the visual aspect of cleanliness.

Canada’s emissions are terrible on a per capita basis so I heard and probably accounts for why we’re not on the list. Has something to do with the large size of the country and hence transportation of goods by transport trucks among other factors. Notice all the countries on that list are fairly tiny? Drive-thrus should be eliminated too. Looks like the annoying plastic bag elimination at grocery stores hasn’t helped.
