Slicers, newest excel solution for business intelligence

The world most popular spreadsheet application has new feature for business intelligence. It’s call slicers, a visual controls that allow excel 2010 user to quickly and easily filter data in an interactive way. Yes, it only available in latest Microsoft Excel 2010. Slicers float above the , just like charts.

Some reviewers highlight the tool as main reason if user really want to move from previous Excel. There are some changes from Excel 2007, but slicers is one of the stunning change. Users who always optimize their work with charts, pivot table  will benefit more from slicer. Slicers also linkable to pivotchart and cube function — a path to develop interactive dashboards.

Goal Seek in What-If Analysis

One of my favorite tips in Microsoft Excel 2007 is goal seek. The command can be found under What-If Analysis menu in data tools of  Data tab. Generally, what-if analysis provide us several different sets of values in one or more formulas to explore all the various results. Within what-if analysis, a series of process to change the values is running, enabling us to see how those change will affect the result of formulas.

There are several command in What-if analysis: goal seeks, scenarios and data table. Both scenarios and data tables need  sets of input values to determine possible results. If we only work with one or two variable then data table command is enough.  Meanwhile, a scenario  command has multiple variables and it addresses up to 32 values.

Nowadays, backup activities is a main part in modern management applying digital instruments. From the huge computer hardware of international network, flight arrangement system to our daily life of writing and documenting. Digital information has unique characteristics which is vulnerable from physical incident causing damage as well as data loss.

But computer industry keep growing and growing addressing such challenges. Smart ideas create innovation both in protection of hardware component and development of data recovery software. Developers from most-used software, such spreadsheet application, also improve the software regularly. They update the applications with backup and recovery function to make us more comfortable.
