Interesting facts about Cameroon timber

A recent publication of rainforest research institution has revealing interesting facts about timber production and industry in Cameroon. I note that in some developing countries endowed by rich natural resources, extraction industry such timber production is playing important roles for the local economy.

Such countries are experiencing several situation hard to solve poverty and natural resource degradation. Deforestation and degradation then linked with the poverty incidents. The interesting fact is that industrilized countries are pushing tropical countries to participate in global warming solution mechanism by reducing or stop the deforestation. Is the mechanism will work for Cameroon?

2011 idea: Considering biofuel business

A recent paper published by CIFOR indicates that developing countries have a competitive advantage for cultivating biofuel feedstock. Developing countries have land that agro-ecologically suitable.

The paper describes that in Asia, almost all suitable land is classified as agricultural or forested, creating severe land use competition. South America and Africa have the largest areas of suitable land available for biofuel feedstock production, but most is under competing uses. (more…)

There’re always ways to achieve better life and we need to struggle to achieve it

Now I’m highlighting how people are trying to develop better mechanism to address environmental issues, especially forest protection. I refer to recent hot issues on payment environmental services (PES) and reduce emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD).  Both of them are built to address environmental issues that currently not handled by mainstream development in many countries.

What actually the prospect of these mechanism? What’s it current status? Do they really benefits to forests and its livelihood of local indigenous people? (more…)
