China and carbon trade

I think China will become the most powerful country in coming years, as the US and its alliances are experiencing slow-down economic rate and debt-crisis.

The powerful country roles as trend setter in world economic movement, including in carbon trade. Environmental commodities such carbon, are important measures of world action to reduce climate change effects.

A global conference on carbon trade was held in Beijing in April 1-2, 2009.  China Carbon Trade Summit 2009 responses the emerging global market of carbon trading. Reports says estimation of  global carbon trading market size will reach US$150 billion by 2012. This market potentially reach US$ 3 trillion over the next 20 years. (more…)

Deforestation and C02 emissions

September 22nd, 2011 | Posted by iip in Forest - (Comments Off)

As experts says, deforestation is estimated to be responsible for around 20 percent of all human-induced CO2 emissions. Most of this effect being happen in tropical forest. However this figure is highly uncertain. According to 2007 GTZ report, the reasons are:

  • There is a notorious lack in reliable forest inventories.
  • the ascertainment of deforestation depends on the diverging definitions of forests
  • Greenhouse gas emissions from forest degradation (i.e. vegetation loss inside a standing forest) are difficult to estimate, and there is no single accepted definition of it Re-growth after deforestation
  • N2O and CH4 emissions due to forest fires have not yet been quantified on a global scale, but they contribute in a significant way to the increase in greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

What do you think? Should we give priority to avoiding deforestation?

Thinking of green calling

In coming weeks there are two events related to global warming: earth hour and earth day.  In the earth hour, people are advised to switch the lights off for sixty minutes.  This is not only global campaign of energy saving. People around the world are reminded about dirty energy of coal using in most power plants.

In the earth day, we are encouraged to take actions in making the earth cleaner and greener.   Taking action individually is important after we join groups or social networking that spread those environmental campaigns.

Some options may take when we are online:
