Global warming issues and agroforestry adoption

Promoting agroforestry could be better option for rural poor in combating global warming issues. Agroforestry have been practiced for ages but less recognized by many governments. In agroforestry practice, farmers are benefits farm yield as well as from trees planted. They manage such tree based farm system to meets their needs of food and energy.

Agroforestry innovations have been introduced as an effort of development on market based agricultural commodities. It changes technological factors in production process to increase their productivity and enhance quality of agricultural commodities. Questioning how the impact of such innovations will lead to the process of new technological factors adopted by farmers.

Promoting agroforestry practice request better understanding on adoption process.

Adoption is wide-range term that describing changes process from mental perspective to practical agricultural economics. In farm-level, according to Feder et al (1985) economist defined adoption as the degree of use of a new technology in long-run equilibrium when the farmer has full information about the new technology and its potential.

ClimateLab: a wiki site of climate change issues

climatelabWiki technology enables people to develop knowledge sharing system. If it managed properly, wiki technology could develop a credible sources that always check and recheck by relevant experts from any institution with different perspectives.

I note that the power of  wiki is the openness, it availability for people to share and confirm with others. However, it also addresses variance of data sources.  Someone could become contributor if he has sources, experiences or authority.  So called organization and university are important sources in a high level science issue such climate change.

I see ClimateLab has critical position amidst the growing issue of climate change.

Social networking and forests protection efforts

Social network software may become the most important tools as the growing of number internet users throughout the world. Internet users are enjoying social medias with various interests. Many people then demand social network software to build basic tool on achieving wider popularity of their companies, organizations or social projects. They are hoping that social network software are good option to create online community instantly. However, there are still many companies and organizations used existing social networks for spreading their ideas, brands and events.

I put highlights of the role of current social networking on the public awareness on sustainable development issues as Jeffrey Sachs noted in his newest book Common Wealth: economics of a crowded planet.

Now, I’m exploring how the social networking used by several environmental NGOs to disseminate their ideas of forests protection. I list four international NGO who engage in Facebook.
