I noted PES and REDD as recent mechanisms that was built to protect environmental services. However, some parties have developed similar mechanism with various approaches or addressing more issues on local people’s livelihood.  Such mechanisms allow resources transfer from different parties who have also different capabilities.

Here I put another financial mechanism –known as Bio-right that aims to address poverty issues and environmental degradation.  This mechanism stands in the area where widely known that poverty has to do with environmental problems or vice versa. The linkage is more complex and varies from countries to countries.  What make different Bio-rights mechanism with PES or REDD?

Social networking and forests protection efforts

Social network software may become the most important tools as the growing of number internet users throughout the world. Internet users are enjoying social medias with various interests. Many people then demand social network software to build basic tool on achieving wider popularity of their companies, organizations or social projects. They are hoping that social network software are good option to create online community instantly. However, there are still many companies and organizations used existing social networks for spreading their ideas, brands and events.

I put highlights of the role of current social networking on the public awareness on sustainable development issues as Jeffrey Sachs noted in his newest book Common Wealth: economics of a crowded planet.

Now, I’m exploring how the social networking used by several environmental NGOs to disseminate their ideas of forests protection. I list four international NGO who engage in Facebook.

Social networks foster sustainable development

My attention on internet development finds new perspective related to sustainable development. I thought there’s a complex relation between internet and sustainable development.  People who develop internet are engineers and people who engage with sustainable development issues mostly decision makers, NGO activism and social scientists.  I guess there are limited collaboration researches  joining  both internet and sustainable development.

Then I have chance to explore Jeffery D Sachs newest book of Common Wealth: Economics for a crowded planet (2008). Sachs, according to Edward o Wilson in its foreword, has written a state of the world report of immediate and enormous practical value.
